A bewilderingly diverse mishmash of the best that the 17th century as well as the modern day has to offer, Amsterdam is all at once a city that harkens back to its glorious history and keeps an eye in the future. Both whimsical and down to earth, Amsterdam truly has something to offer the adventurous as well as the more laid back traveler.

One of the first things you will notice about Amsterdam is that the city is a virtual showcase of architectural wonders from times past. The canals that can be found all over the city are impressive displays in their own right, and the numerous museums, galleries, and cultural establishments are sure to amaze those travelers seeking a glimpse into the city’s cultural heritage. You simply cannot miss out visiting the Van Gogh Museum, which stands as a living testament to the artist’s creativity and influence. Rijksmuseum, is another one of the city’s most respected museums with its breathtaking collections of works by artists such as Vermeer and Rembrandt. The Rembrandt collection is particularly impressive and is considered one of the most important collections of the painter in the world.

Don’t think that Amsterdam is all about history and culture however. A more vibrantalbeit radically different culture exists in the city’s center, which is home to some of the most bustling entertainment and leisure sports in the world. Amsterdam is of course known all over the world as a place where you can let your hair down and simply have loads of fun, but even more sedate travelers that do not wish to partake of the city’s more esoteric delights, will find plenty to do and see as well. There are literally dozens of bars, restaurants and cafes strewn about, with most of them offering gustatory delights that are uniquely Amsterdam’s.

Of course there are plenty of restaurants and dining establishments that offer International cuisine as well, so if you are after something to eat that is more familiar to the palate, you will have plenty of options as well. Some of the dining establishments well worth checking out in Amsterdam are: Restaurant Red, which is known for its extensive wine selection and lobster dishes, Jean Jean with its distinctively Mediterranean flair, and Me Naam Naan for its authentic Thai cuisine.

Of course you will want a place to rest after all this fun, and you will be glad to know that Amsterdam has plenty of options for holiday apartments, hotel accommodation, and even budget hotels. The Radisson SAS Hotel is conveniently located near the airport and is considered one of the best business accommodations in the city. Rembrandt Centrum is located right in the middle of the city and affords a glimpse of some of the most impressive buildings of the city’s history by way of its surroundings.

By Gaizka Pujana

Literally thousands of tourists are drawn to the city every year, all of who have grown to love the city for all of its charms and unique characteristics.

Barcelona seems to occupy a lofty position in many travel guides, and for good reason. The city is one of the most tourist friendly destinations in Spain, with loads of options for holiday accommodations, ranging from modestly priced budget hotels to tastefully decorated holiday apartments. And if you want to stay in the city in style, there are lots of lavishly designed first class hotels as well. No matter what your travel budget is, you will surely find Barcelona an accommodating city.

So what is there to do and see in Barcelona? Your options are virtually endless and there is plenty of variety with regard to places to go and things to do. In fact there is so much going on in the city that there is no way that you can take in everything in the span of only a few days.

For starters, you can check out any of the many restaurants and cafes in Las Ramblas. The culinary delights that you can find in this quaint street is a subject that is enough to fill up another article entirely, but for now we will focus on the aspect of Las Ramblas that is just as satisfying, albeit in a different way. Quite simply, the street is the perfect place for a casual walk or to simply lounge around the many benches. There are numerous flower shops, interesting bookstores and curio shops, and even market stalls that sell everything from local delicacies to pets.

For entertainment, Las Ramblas also has scores of street performers, artists, musicians and a host of charming street characters that defy description. All of these make Las Ramblas one of the most fascinating streets that you will find in Barcelona or elsewhere for that matter.

Head straight towards the port district and even more impressive sights await at the Paseo de Colon Boulevard. Of course the beach is one of the most popular attractions of this thoroughfare, but even if you don’t like to get your feet wet there is plenty to do and see. The harbor alone is enough for hours and hours of sightseeing and more strolling, and a trek up the San Sebastia Tower is a must for anyone who wants a glimpse of the best features of the city. There is even an aquarium where you can find a truly impressive display of sea creatures from all over the world. And if you feel the need to see even more of the city from high above, the tower is the starting point for a cable car service that will take you to Montjuic.

All of these are just a few of the attractions that Barcelona has in store for you. With loads of options for hotel accommodations, there is simply no reason why you shouldn’t consider Barcelona for your next getaway!

Take A Trip To Bogota!
By Gaizka Pujana

Located 2,547 meters above sea level, with the stunning grandeur of the Cordillera mountain range visible from many parts of the city towards the East, Bogota is truly a breathtaking spectacle of a city in more ways than one.

If you are planning to visit the city for the first time, you will probably want to know what hotel accommodations are like. The good news is that Bogota is great place to find accommodations on a budget. Numerous lodging houses, pensions, backpacker hotels and budget hotels can be found, with most of them offering superb value for the money.

Particularly worthy of mention is the amusingly named Cranky Croc Hostel, which is built into a 19th century colonial structure. An ideal place for those traveling with everything they can carry in a backpack, the hostel offers comfort and tastefully appointed surroundings that belie its very affordable rates.

Another one of the better budget hotels in Bogota is Platypus Hostel. This place is perfect for backpackers that want to socialize with travelers from all over the world or simply enjoy a good night’s rest in comfortably spacious surroundings.

With your hotel accommodations taken care of, you will probably want to know what there is to do and see in Bogota and the city will surely not disappoint. If a bit of history is what you are after, head straight to the center of town where impressive displays of the city’s architectural marvels await. The La Candelaria district is particularly noteworthy, since it is where many of the city’s most majestic buildings are located, among them the Catedral Primada, the Luis Angel Arango Library, which covers a whole city block, and the El Museo del Oro, which is a popular tourist destination housing some truly spectacular collections of gold artifacts.

Bogota is a city that takes its libraries very seriously, and some of the most renowned ones are just as impressive for the books that they contain as for their architectural design. El Tunal, and Virgilio Barco Vargas are only two of the most impressive ones and they are well worth visiting if only to catch a glimpse of their majestic facades.

Bogota is also a place where you can totally forget about culture and simply party the night away. With scores of clubs, bars and assorted nightspots that are filled to the rafters with hordes of beautiful people, there is usually something going on in the Bogota nocturnal scene most nights of the week. Among the bars and clubs that you should not miss out on are Mister Babilla with its unique brand of music, Salome, which is very popular with the local residents of the city, and the appropriately named Tropical Cocktails where you can sample from the extensive menu of drinks.
